* INIGO Introduction :)

Who is Inigo?

Inigo is a fully voiced khajiit adventuring companion with thousands of lines of unique dialogue. He's essential. He’ll level alongside you. He’ll avoid most traps. If you’re sneaking he won’t chatter. If you talk to him while sneaking he’ll whisper. He can run out of arrows. He’s highly skilled in archery, one-handed, and sneak. He has unique, random combat dialogue for most enemies. Your morality is his morality. He tells stories, sings, and is influenced by your time together.

PLEASE NOTE: Although Smartbluecat is a member on this forum, he would GREATLY appreciate it if you could please report any issues you have with Inigo

on the relevant Oldrim/SE Nexus 'Posts' pages (after carefully checking the FAQ first). You will find support there. Redirect links below.

Issues reported via pm will possibly go unanswered due to how EXCEPTIONALLY busy he is.

The more people who don't read the documentation and ask SBC to personally solve their issues, the longer V3 will take ;)

Thank you all for your co-operation. :)

  • To start off, Trystan Firebrand was largely inspired by the very beginning of Enderal. In this initial nightmare sequence, we learn that the player character's mother and sister were burned alive in his childhood, and that there is at least a part of him that blames himself for their deaths, even if it was really the "masked men" who were the real perpetrators of the crime.

The backstory of Trystan Firebrand, a breton and a native of High Rock, takes this a step further: it was he himself who was responsible for his family's cremation. You see, when he was only 8 years old, Trystan discovered his innate magical talent when he let loose a wave of fire that kills everyone else and, eventually, causes the house to collapse in a burning heap. When this happens, he is knocked unconscious; miraculously, however, Trystan's wounds heal quickly as his magical talent kicks in yet again in a sort of emergency response.

Enter the dream aspect. With the character that I started very recently, Norin the Insecure Wood Elf, that playthrough takes place entirely in a dream/nightmare. This, in conjunction with Trystan's backstory (and subsequently grim personality), got me thinking about a certain role that dreams sometimes play in our lives: the processing of grief and traumatic experiences.

With all that on the table, I'm thinking it would be interesting to make Trystan as a character yet again and have his respective playthrough take place in a series of dreams that gradually let him come to grips with what he had done more than a decade earlier.

Symbolism will play a vital role in all of this, of course: characters like Inigo, Serana, and even Delphine will prove to be positive forces in Trystan's development, and a certain character or two in the mod "Clockwork" will give voice to something that Trystan secretly and desperately yearns for. Furthermore, the overall look and feel of the environment will gradually change: at first, everything is bleak, barren, and colorless; but over time, life ever so slowly starts to creep in, adding color and vibrancy and hope to what was once an indisputably depressed and dejected mind.

That was where my brain was going this evening. If you fine fellows have any ideas as to how to improve upon this, please let me know!

  • EDIT: (as promised)

I agree with Shinra, this is absolutely awesome!

When I read it I was literally like, Wow! :)

I have vaguely heard about Enderal, but admittedly know nothing about it :( If he is responsible for the death of his family, I know that is a massive burden to carry and it can destroy even the strongest of souls. (My Nan died 20 years ago this year, and it's only this year that I have stopped (wrongly) blaming myself for her death, so I know that burden very well)

Instead of him being wounded too, he could still be knocked out, but the initial use of his accidental newfound powers might knock him so far back, he is out of danger of being burnt by the flames?

I like the idea of him living in a dream/nightmare, it gives more scope for wonderful and imaginary things! :)

Clockwork! Clockwork is my second favourite mod in all of the modding community, first being Inigo of course! :)

You would certainly add colour and vibrancy with the clockwork mod, I LOVE the artist's choice of colour and furnishings. If I found a house like Clockwork Castle in real life, I would never ever want to leave, even with such a superb way of transporting myself across Skyrim! :)

This is a playthrough that I am very excited to watch progress, even just the idea and brainstorming session would be super exciting to either watch or participate in! :D *dances excitedly*  :MOONWALK: *starjump* :jumpjack: :jumpjack: :dance1:

  • Hiya! So, I read this idea about 5 times and there's nothing I can say about it except the fact that it's AWESOME! =D I wonder if love could be one of the aspects that would make his dreams better... Also, instead of ONLY gradually improving, things could fluctuate, you know, get worse before getting better? And get a bit worse, but then something VERY good happens... Sorry xD

Anyway, great idea with the dream thing. =3 Have a good one!

  • Thank you, you two!

@Shinra I was indeed considering the whole fluctuation thing! Certainly, certain things like those laugh-out-loud moments with Inigo would add more color than other positive things would, whereas the moment that Trystan becomes a werewolf (thereby beginning to confront his mortal fear of again losing control of his magic) would add bleakness before allowing things to get better again (i.e. Trystan learning to control his lycanthropy/magic).

Oh, and perhaps Langley could be a manifestation of how Trystan begins to make fun of himself.

And just like with my Norin playthrough, the mod that I will be using to add/subtract color (saturation) is the lightweight Imaginator (no ENB for THIS overly mediocre laptop)! As for the landscape, it will go from Dark Fantasy Overhaul to Vanilla to one of those pretty landscape mods; I will have to do some research on that last one.

As a side note, a little idea that I got during work today was that I could write a narrative that goes over Trystan's waking moments, and how those influence what goes on in his dreams. I may or may not decide to do this, however.

  • Doggone it, why do I almost ALWAYS get nifty ideas when I am unable to jot them down right away? :D

Lately, I've been thinking a bit more of how Trystan's dreams could possibly be derived from his waking moments. Here's what I've been able to come up with thus far as far as characters go:

    Skyrim (dream)                             High Rock (awake)
-Isran                                               -Militant High Priest of Arkay
-Florentius Baenius                          -Priest of Arkay, High Priest's eccentric half-brother
-Gunmar                                           -Beast-trapper for Imperial City Arena
    -Sorine Jurard                                   -Trystan's cousin
-Serana                                            -Member of "that weird family" that lives on the
edge of town; later befriends Trystan
    -Harkon                                            -Trystan's friend's abusive father
-Among-the-hist (INPCs)                  -Veteran soldier who fought in Black Marsh; wants
                                                              to stay as far away as possible from that life;
                                                              questions the merits of war
-Hermaeus Mora                               -Librarian of neighboring kingdom
-Miraak                                              -Librarian's assistant; goes mad and seeks to gain
                                                               control of said neighboring kingdom

There are a few additional things that I'm trying to work out, such as this: In the waking world, does Trystan get involved in subduing the Librarian's crazed assistant in any way, or does he merely hear about the incident? There is also the issue of the Dragonborn/Inigo/Langley relationship--mainly, what/who is Inigo in the waking world? Is he a manifestation of a part of Trystan's psyche, or is he someone whom Trystan has met before? If Langley, as suggested in my previous post, is a manifestation of Trystan making fun of himself, and if, in Skyrim, Langley and Trystan are practically competing over Inigo, how does that translate into what happens in the waking world?

In terms of the Main Quest (i.e. Alduin dies), all I've really been able to work out so far is that it is a manifestation of the fact that Trystan was given his magical talent for a reason (having the effective might of a dragon), but I do not yet know what that reason might be. I suppose one question to ask is, Does Trystan become a local hero in his own right outside the dream, or is the dream, in part, a mere fantasy of his?

Of course, any input at all in this regard shall be much appreciated!
